Chester County to gain 24 jobs

Jun 18, 2009

Southeastern Petroleum, a company that specializes in recycling motor oil, has agreed to locate a new $30 million manufacturing plant in Chester County that will create 24 new jobs. The company -- a "green" manufacturer of base oils used in the production of lubricants -- plans to produce up to 10 million gallons a year from the Chester County site, according to an announcement from the S.C. Department of Commerce. Company officials could not be reached Thursday. Chester County Supervisor Carlisle Roddey said he wasn't sure of the timetable for the project, but he expects work to begin soon on a site that has already been chosen. "The way I understand it, they want to get started early," said Roddey, who did not know the site's location. Roddey said the new plant is important because it "helps us diversify our business community and will bring new jobs to our residents. We are committed to working with new and existing businesses to create opportunities for our residents." The company is partnering on the Chester project with Pesco-Beam Environmental Solutions, which plans a research and development component at the site, commerce officials said. Pesco-Beam, which is the majority stakeholder in Southeastern Petroleum, designs and builds systems that recover high-quality oils from used oil streams to be placed back into the market. Luke Staengl, president of Pesco-Beam, said in a statement that Chester County provides "a positive business environment, offers a strong work force and places us in an excellent community."
